Rafi Kushick grew up in Amherst, Massachusetts, and graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2002. He moved to New York immediately after graduating, where he had the opportunity to work with the reknowned Modernist designer Vladimir Kagan, and design bedroom collections for Aspen Home, Inc. During that time he also taught four summers of art and woodworking classes at Camp Ramah in Palmer, MA, and the Berkshires. Rafi designed Home Office, Media, and Occasional furniture for Pottery Barn at their corporate headquarters in downtown San Francisco for many years, and now is an independent designer and consultant. His recent activities of note within the Jewish community include designing the 2006 Pottery Barn menorah, leyning and leading ma'ariv at the Mission Minyan, and getting away with clashing European patterns during Friday night davvening. He likes sweater vests, hidden compartments, and gothic architecture. He also enjoys studying furniture history, drawing, discussing the creative process, and learning from his peers.
