Fringe Benefits, a Talmud animation from Menachot 44a

By Aviva Stein and Robert Kornstein

Talmud, interpreted by emerging artists

Menachot 44a is a story that’s got it all—riches, romance and samurai rabbis. In this ancient epic meets underwater fantasy, a student gets in over his head

Artists’ statement: In this ancient epic meets underwater fantasy, a tzit tzit-toting student gets in over his head when he pays a visit to an elite and ethereal woman who knows what she wants. What begins as a simple transaction results in our hero’s transoceanic voyage of tzadik proportions, and ends, upon the blessing of a wise and mountain-dwelling rabbi, with a partnership sure to leave you in stitches and in fringes.

Created in chevruta, or partnership, between a visual artist and a writer as part of a 2012-3 program called Studio G-dcast.
