The Emperor’s Secret: From Avodah Zara 10a-b

By Melissa Nierman and Dani Bronstein

Talmud, interpreted by emerging artists

Emperor Antoninus has a secret.

He may be the merciless leader of the Roman Empire, but his humanity takes him underground (literally) by breaking the rules of a society he was born to uphold. Using cardboard and clay, this stop-motion animation video short tells a story from the Talmud of an unlikely friendship between this legendary ruthless emperor and a wise Rabbi.

Overtime their friendship develops into a brotherhood bond that carries Emperor Antonius and Rabbi Judah the Prince from young inexperienced leaders into elderly best friends.

Created in chevruta, or partnership, by a writer and a visual artist as part of our Studio G-dcast program held in 2012-3.
